Periodic inspections of harvester heads

The basis for the proper operation of harvester heads are periodic inspections and maintenance. Below we present how often such checks should be carried out and what they include.

Daily maintenance or after every 10 hours of operation

1. Checking the tension, sharpening and fixing the saw chain and guide bar. Paying attention to the general condition of the guide and possible damage.
2. Checking the condition and fixings of the diameter sensors.
3. Checking the condition of the length measuring equipment.
4. Checking for oil leaks.
5. Checking the correct operation of the chain lubrication system.
6. Lubricate the mounting points of the cylinders of the lower delimbing knives and the bearings of the lower delimbing knives.
7. Lubricate the attachment points of the cylinders of the upper delimbing knives.
8. Lubricate the bearings of the delimbing knives.
9. Grease the shear unit pivot bearings and ram attachment point.
10. Lubricate the saw cylinder attachment points.
11. Lubricate the measuring roll attachment.
12. Lubricate the feed roll arm bearings and the feed roll arm cylinder bearings
13. Lubricate the rotator pendant

Weekly maintenance or after every 50 hours of operation

1. Lubricate the housing of the diameter sensors (2 pcs.) with cold and water resistant grease
2. Checking the screw connections. If necessary, use glue for screw connections.

TIP: If there is a concern that water melt during the day may freeze inside the diameter sensor, it is recommended to lubricate the sensors daily.

Maintenance after every 250 hours of operation

1. Checking that the fasteners have not loosened.
2. Checking that the hydraulic hoses are not damaged.
3. Checking that the saw assembly is not damaged or cracked.
4. Checking the saw assembly for leaks.
5. Checking the condition of elastic elements in rollers with elastic ribs.
6. Tighting the feed roller fasteners on the feed unit motor shaft

Depending on the head type, the frequency of inspections and precision maintenance tasks may vary slightly. The exact inspection schedule can be found in the instruction manual of the device. Nevertheless, one thing is for sure: it is worth taking the time to properly inspect it to ensure safe and long-lasting operation.
