Prepare your machine for winter
Winter and the accompanying negative temperatures is a demanding period for machines. As the owner, you should take care of your equipment and prepare it properly.
How to do it? Below are some tips to help you.
The basic operation is to check the presence of water in all systems. First of all, you should pay attention to the cooling system and coolant, which should be resistant to low temperatures. With longer stops, when we know that the temperature will stay below 0 ℃, it is also worth turning off the water supply to the external intakes and draining the water from the system.
It is recommended to use winter fuel in diesel vehicles (available at petrol stations from 1 November to the end of February). The tank should be filled at least to half, and preferably to full. You shouldn’t drive on reserve.
The next step is to change the oil in the engine and lubricate the elements that require it, because greases and oils have hydrophobic properties, which repel water. It will also be useful to maintain all rubber elements that can crumble and fall apart due to large temperature differences and UV rays.
The last thing to remember is to protect metal elements against corrosion, i.e. remove the remains of earth, grass, etc. and use an appropriate paint for damaged paint coatings.
Unfortunately, the winter period is also a difficult time for animals that are looking for warm places. It happens, however, that they can cause considerable damage, e.g. by nibbling on bundles of wires. To scare away rodents, it is enough to hang scented Christmas trees/toilet cubes with a strong smell around the machine or bundles of dog or cat hair. This should help.
This is how the prepared machine is a guarantee of readiness for work every day.
You will avoid downtime, failures, loss of performance and unnecessary costs associated with it.
